The drinking water from Jakobstads vatten should be boiled

MILJÖHÄLSAN KALLAN INFORMS
THE DRINKING WATER FROM JAKOBSTADS VATTEN SHOULD BE BOILED

Jakobstads vatten supplies drinking water in Jakobstad and the southern part of Larsmo. A water sample taken on Monday 22.4.2024 has been found to contain coliform bacteria.

All drinking water and water used for cooking must be boiled for 5 minutes.

The water company will begin enhanced chlorination of the water and there will be a higher than normal chlorine odor in the water. Chlorine kills harmful microbes. Chlorine in the water does not cause any health problems but safeguards the microbiological quality of the drinking water. Water can be used for normal washing and dishes can be washed with unboiled water, but they must be carefully dried after washing.

Miljöhälsan Kallan will take new samples on Wednesday 24.4.2024

The boiling recommendation for drinking water is in force until further notice.
