Visit Malm House This Summer

Malm House, part of the Jakobstad Museum, is open in July from Monday to Friday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon–4 p.m. In August, Malm House is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 12 noon–4 p.m. Tempus Exhibition Hall, located in the same courtyard, follows the same opening hours as Malm House. Until 9 August, Tempus is presenting Minna Östman’s exhibition “Ostrobothnian Rooms – Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Design.”

A significant part of the Jakobstad Museum’s collections is housed in Malm House. The building was commissioned by shipowner and merchant Peter Malm and constructed between 1836 and 1838. From the late 18th century to the mid-19th century, the Malm family was among the most prominent merchant and shipping families of its time.

At Malm House, visitors can explore the maritime history of Jakobstad and the history of the Malm trading company. The exhibitions feature period interiors from the late 19th century, maritime paintings, and ship models. Malm House also includes an exhibition on the history of the town and a museum shop.

The museum shop offers jewellery, glassware made according to historical designs, toys, books, and souvenirs. The shop is open during the museum’s regular opening hours.

The museum is also hosting Johanna Englund’s photogravure exhibition “Ancestors – Identity” until 30 August. On Wednesday, 22 July, at 2 p.m., Johanna Englund and Jeanette Edfelt will give a presentation (in Swedish) on the theme “Ancestors, identity and family heirlooms.” Admission to the museum is free during the event.
