You Still Have Time to Visit Runeberg’s Cottage This Summer
Runeberg’s Cottage is open during the summer season until Sunday, 2 August 2026. The cottage is open daily from 12:00 to 16:00, weather permitting. At other times, visits can be arranged by appointment. (tel. 044 785 1371)
Located on the Östanpå, Runeberg’s Cottage was built in 1811 by Johan Ludvig Runeberg’s father, Lorenz Ulrik Runeberg, and uncle, Mathias Mattsson Malm. Used as a fishing and hunting lodge, the cottage was an important summer retreat for Finland’s national poet during his childhood.
Take the opportunity to explore J.L. Runeberg’s childhood landscapes and experience a touch of history while the summer season is still ongoing! You can read more about the cottage and its history on the Jakobstad Museum’s website.
