Jakobstad’s Hiking Trails Offer Nature Experiences All Year Round
The Jakobstad region is known for its diverse natural environment and excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. The area features dozens of kilometres of marked trails, an accessible nature trail, several wilderness huts and shelters, and unique coastal, forest, and wetland landscapes that invite visitors to explore and stay active throughout the year.
One of the region’s most popular outdoor destinations is the Fäboda Hiking Trail, which offers approximately 40 kilometres of marked routes through varied natural surroundings. The trail network is ideal for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking, allowing visitors to experience the rich and diverse nature of the region.
The main starting point is located at the Torsviken parking area, but visitors can also begin their journey from locations such as Lillsand or Pörkenäs. At Lillsand, you will find the popular Reijo’s Trail, an adventure trail, a shelter with a barbecue area, and a well-loved balance course for children.
Along the hiking trails, there are several wilderness huts and shelters where visitors can take a break and enjoy a meal. Wiik’s Hut and Reijo’s Hut also offer overnight accommodation. Following a comprehensive restoration project in 2021, the trail system is now more accessible than ever, and nature information boards along the routes provide insights into the area’s nature and history.
Fäboda is also home to a popular accessible nature trail that leads visitors through scenic coastal landscapes to the Rågårdsskatan observation tower. Here, everyone can enjoy nature, the sea, and the fresh coastal air throughout the year.
